My daughter married a man who has turned out to have a lot of secrets. There are indications he has been married before but not divorced. How can she find out? She's willing to pay for some searches but can't afford a private investigator. Thank you in advance.

Since marriages are public record, your daughter (or you, or the guy down the street, for that matter), can simply request the info. I know someone who regularly uses an online background check company and get the a link for you tomorrow - I'll post it once I have it. I believe the fee is between $10 and $30, and it covers quite a bit, not just marriage records.

Ooooh - this sounds fun! (sorry she married a bum but the sooner she learns the truth, the better) Do a background search using his name and SS#. His credit history should provide clues based on the type of spending - there are places where guys don't typically shop and women do. Then go to City Hall (records dept) where he last lived and find out if he's married. Unfortunately this may require his signature authorizing a background check, which he obviously will not provide.
Tell your daughter to find out where he's worked. She'll have to be a bit devious (but all is fair) - pretending that she needs to contact his wife over a family estate/inheritance issue but of course not saying that she's married to him. As a last resort have her ask the police what she can do to get the true background on this character. They're glad to accomodate without of course breaking the law, so she shouldn't tell them about the devious stuff.
If she knows where he has lived, she can go the county records office and view marriage and divorce records for no fee.
She can do an online search for 29.00 or use his DL info and get a printout from an auto insurance ofc since she is his wife.
