What are the best cars to consider for a husband and wife who might be having a baby?

They want a vehicle that will make it easy to lug around all of the paraphernalia parents must lug around when they have a baby -- stroller, car seat, diapers, food, etc. But they don't want something too big.

And they're not fans of SUVs -- too big and use too much gas. But maybe you'd say that certain model SUVs are the way to go?

What about vehicles (like the Honda CR-V, I think) that are kind of like SUVs but are built on a car chassis rather than a truck chassis?

What about regular sedans? Minivans?

What do you recommend and why? What are the best cars to consider for a husband and wife who might be having a baby?
Any car that has a VOLVO insignia on it. Reputation for safety car in the world....believe me...I own 2 Volvo's.What are the best cars to consider for a husband and wife who might be having a baby?

i recommend a dodge caravan or chrysler town and country.
A regular sedan or a hatchback would be an excellent choice. Just make sure it's a 4-door car, not 2-doors! (Flipping a front seat forward, and stretching into the back to get the baby in and out of the car seat, will get very old, very fast. Don't forget, the baby seat belongs in the back, not in the front passenger seat.) For peace of mind, I'd also suggest a car with side air bags that protect back-seat passengers too.

Most strollers will fold-up small enough that it shouldn't be a problem to fit them into any trunk (or into the hatchback area). So if the parents-to-be aren't SUV fans, there's absolutely no reason that they should feel obligated to go buy one now. You know, people had babies (and car seats and strollers and diaper bags and so on and so forth) long before SUVs were invented! Ditto for minivans.
i have a toyota matrix and i love it ! it has lots of room and it is not an suv ! it sits up high which is great for putting kids into car seats etc!the back seats fold flat and the is a nice cargo area.i get great milage, 29 in city! give it a test drive, the price was good also! check Yahoo autos for info and prices .
